How To Let Yourself Have Fun!

You’re at a party and someone is “letting loose” on the dance floor, and, well, let’s just say dancing isn’t one of their talents. Worst yet, they seem to be having a great time and either don’t know, or don’t care, just how they look.

What’s going through your head?

Chances are your first thought is (as my grandmother often said),“They are making a fool of themselves”.

And while, by “grama’s” standards, that’s true, if you’re honest here, chances are that there is another, quieter, voice saying

“I wish I could be more like that –

 just have fun

and not care what people think!”

A passionate believer in the power of “jump starts”, Marianne helps clients obliterate self-doubts, blast through limiting beliefs, and gain clarity to discover their passion and drive.

So What’s Stopping You?

There is a short 3 letter answer here… and you may not want to admit it, but the only thing stopping you is – well – YOU.

You may blame Grama, who’s voice echoes in your head “Don’t make a fool out of yourself”, but it’s only there because you are letting it play (possibly in an endless loop.) She warns you about being considered a “goofball” just like the dancer is.

You may blame others – for having such strong “rules” of behavior. You wonder just what they will think of you tomorrow.

Let me ask you this.   What will YOU think of the “goofball” tomorrow?  Will you remember only that they danced oddly? or that they had fun, and weren’t afraid to look silly in the process?

Will you be admiring their courage and secretly wishing that you could be more like that? Yeah. me too!

I’ll bet that grama and the others are also wishing they could be more like the “Goofball” on the dance floor. I mean, seriously, look at how much fun they are having!

Here is a neat little trick…

Next time you hear grama (or whoever your “person” is) telling you not to make a fool out of yourself, also hear them continue on with the second though – “I wish I could have fun without worrying about what other people think”

Then recognize that “grama” said it, and let it sink in for a moment.

Then ask “grama” (in your mind) “What’s stopping you? “

And listen…really listen to the answer…

It’s your own heart that’s answering.  Pay attention. Reframe it. No one says you have to go “total goofball” – but you can absolutely have MORE fun!

Excuse my “mom’s pride” here, as I put in a video of my son Tim – but this exemplifies the power of being yourself.

There are 2 specific reference points here…

He starts the song singing “off key” because it calls for it, then let’s his great voice take over.

He’s not afraid to move around (esp 4:07 and 4:35) How boring this would have been if he just sat on a stool or stood still the whole time.

My son Tim, being a “goofball” and everyone loved it! You can find more at

Remember this –

While that person may be dancing like a “goofball” – what people remember most is that they had the courage to just have fun. People like that are rare and, on some level, envied.

You’d don’t have to go full “goofball” to have fun, but you do have to reframe “grama’s” voice when it pops up and tries to stop you from having any fun.

Give it a try.

Show “grama” how to have a little more fun!

I truly love sharing what I learn with you. Watching someone have an "a-ha" moment is one of the best things in life for me.

Because I am  a consummate "student" - when I find something new and interesting, I really dig deep.    I study hard and then I use what I've learned to help others.  (Yeah, I have gathered together quite a toolbox!)

I truly do believe in the power of "Jump Starts" and the ability everyone has to "get un-stuck." If I can do it, anyone can!

I believe that every human is unique and valuable,

even if they aren't able to recognize it themselves.

I believe each and every one has the power to create a great life

once they recognize -and accept- their value.

Even as a child I've been able to help people change the way they see themselves - helping them move from a "victim" to an "owner" mindset. I help them to gain self-confidence and recognize their strengths. I've discovered that it's only when you do that, can you "get un-stuck" and "Jump Start" your life.

What drives me is helping others to succeed, to be a support system while they are taking steps toward their dream, and to watch them celebrate their victories.

The Biggest Lesson I've learned is the power of your mind.  It truly does create and destroy.

It was quite a shock when I realized the power that my mindset played in every part of my life - good and bad.  Discovery wasn't enough though, it still took me decades to harness this power, learn to control it, and develop a system to help others master this in a fraction of the time it took me.

Taking responsibility - even for how others treated me - was one of the hardest adjustments I had to make. To move from Victim to Owner mindset was not only difficult, it was, at times, scary.

It is a move that I am thrilled to have taken. It changed my life and it can change yours.
